In the 60's, there was a folk dance group under the Chinese Students Weekly in Hong Kong. The members gathered every week to enjoy dancing. In 1967, the Weekly ended and the folk dance group had to be dismissed. Those group members, who were young students and already tied with deep friendship, then organized themselves and inaugurated the Budlet Folk Dance Club (the Club) on 10 September 1967. Later in December 1973, the Club was registered as a non-profit making organization, and further as a charity organization on 9 April 1990 in Hong Kong.

A lot of changes and challenges were faced by the Club in the past 54 years. Yet the key objective of the Club to promote folk dance has never been changed. The Club organized regular training classes of western folk dances, invited dance masters from overseas to come to Hong Kong to teach in workshops and private classes for the public and the members. Through the years, the club participated actively in various open dance competitions and performances; and received numerous awards.

Currently there are 93 Club members. While the administration and organizing activities of the Club are carried out by the Executive Committee, the members actively assist in the work and participate. thus contributing to making years of success. The Club was also honoured to have 10 Honorary Advisors who gave valuable advices.
